It’ll be several more weeks before we have a chill in the morning air here in the desert southwest, but the chili roasting has begun and that is our gauge for the start of the fall season. In honor of the change in season, I thought I’d round up a few fabulous fall afghans and share them with you! Hope you enjoy.
Autumn Crochet Squares
What I love about this one is of course the colors that were chosen to reflect autumn, but also that it’s portable in nature given that the afghan is composed of crochet squares. A few skeins and a hook tossed into a tote bag and I’m good work on this baby in the car, at an appointment, or on my lunch hour. You can find if for free here on Ravelry.
Warm Color Crochet Squares
I stumbled onto the Beautiful Crochet Stuff blog and spent several delightful hours poking about. You should definitely give her a click and check it out for yourself. I fell hard for her crocheted afghan.
I always like to work with crocheted squares where only one color of yarn is used. Weaving in ends is not my favorite thing to do, and a single color per square lessens that burden. Of course, so does a good Scotch whisky, but that’ll just be our little secret. This afghan has a bit of a lacy feel to it once it’s completed because the squares are attached to one another in only three places per side. Gotta love that as sewing squares together is about as much fun as weaving in ends;-) Beautiful Crochet Stuff also includes a multitude of VERY detailed diagrams to go along with this pattern and a fabulous written pattern as well. Color Rich Simple Knit Afghan
This afghan calls for combining two types of yarn and knits double stranded on US Size 11 needles. I was drawn (moth to flame) by the simplicity of the knit and the rich color combination. The finished product is just luscious!
I’m seriously tempted to try this with a single strand of Lion Brand Homespun yarn. I have skeins and skeins of that stuff and have yet to use it for a major project. It’s just so soft and yummy that I may have, MAY have, over purchased that particular yarn. You can find the free pattern here.
Fast Finish Knitted Throw
If you’re in the mood to knit something fast and easy while binging on Netflix, you can have this lovely whipped up in a day. The pattern calls for US Size 50 needles. F-I-F-T-Y. Huge! Eight skeins of Lion Brand Homespun (yarn is held double throughout) and you’re done.

Woodland Circle Afghan
I found this afghan fascinating simply because it’s crocheted in the round. I’ve never made a round afghan have you? This one really does make a bold statement.
I think this would look especially fabulous if worked in a single variegated colorway. Fiesta comes to mind. It’s THE perfect colorway for fall. (It’s the pic below.) The pattern is here.

V-Stitch Ripple Afghan
Ripple afghans have become one of those timeless classics. Easy to crochet, but with enough interest to keep you from going completely crazy while you work on it, and the finished product is eye catching and looks more difficult than it is to the non-crocheters of the world.

Totally Autumn
If you’re feeling like you need a bit of a challenge, then this is the fall afghan pattern for you. It’s knitted with a single variegated yarn and US Size 10.5 needles with a 36 row repeat. YOWZA! The designer includes both written and charted instructions which is great for those of us whose chart reading skills are abysmal. (i.e. Mine!)

Autumn Leaves Afghan
Last but not least in this roundup of Fabulous Fall Afghans is this crocheted Autumn Leaves Afghan. Rich and plush, this afghan is sure to be a treasured fall heirloom for years to come.
Each square is crocheted corner to corner, on a diagonal, which adds a ton of visual interest to the completed project. There are 108 crocheted blocks needed to complete the pattern and it’s all SC peeps! So yes, this one might take you well into winter to complete. Just sayin’.
