CARDBOARD-CACTI-copyI remember years ago, my grandfather had a glassed in front porch that did double duty as a greenhouse. He used old coffee cans, mostly, threw a bit of dirt in each container, and by some miracle of nature grew his own tomato’s along with a few herbs. Home made pasta sauce was a necessary part of life if you were an Italian immigrant. None of that store bought nonsense. Apparently, that tradition ends with my mom (who is French), because I have never once made my own spaghetti sauce and I have a grand total of one houseplant.

I named the plant Harold, he’s a philodendron.  I try to water him every Monday and I even have a reminder written down in my planner. As I’m writing this post, (on Wednesday), I realize Harold is looking a little parched. Yeah, Monday came and went and well, suck it up Harold, we live in the desert.

Turns out, I’m really more of a DIY Cardboard Cacti kind of gal! Aren’t these cacti just amazing? Totally love ’em. Harold, my boy, you’ll soon have company.
